Location: Columbus, GA

The IT Field Cable Technician is responsible for the installation, modification, repair and maintenance of Structured Cabling, Telecommunications, Access control and Camera systems. This includes the physical installation of cabling, access control systems and cameras, troubleshooting and testing of network, telecommunications, access control, and camera technologies, and repair and clean up of existing wiring. You will be required to travel to our locations throughout Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Occasional travel to locations outside of the assigned territory may be required. You will work onsite with a wide variety of users to understand current concerns and issues, and work with the IT department to ensure the usability of access control, camera, telephone and network services at each of our locations.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Daily travel required
  • 2 years experience installing and troubleshooting commercial access control systems, camera systems, and telecommunications cabling
  • Understanding of electric circuits and wiring in low voltage applications
  • Knowledge of access control theory and different types of door hardware including maglocks and strikes
  • Basic understanding of local networking
  • Must be able to work at heights off of a ladder and in confined spaces lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be very organized with high attention to detail
  • Ability to present technical information to non-technical users
  • Ability to listen to non-technical users and understand and analyze underlying issues
  • Customer service oriented with a problem solving attitude
  • The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, a self-starter, creative, able to work independently, possess a strong attention to detail and have a "can do" attitude
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and assistance
  • Ability to clearly document work completed, final resolution of issues, and when necessary, need for additional work
  • Preferred:
  • Familiarity with wireless network installation and testing
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic windows and computer errors and issues
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic network and telecommunications issues
  • Technology certifications are preferred - Low Voltage Cabling, Comptia A+, Comptia Net+ or similar


Responsibilities

  • Physically install Cat 5/5e/6 cabling and access control system cabling
  • Installation of outlets, pulling cabling, pre-termination, including organizing, forming, dressing and labeling
  • Installation of all systems infrastructure to include conduit, wiring and enclosures
  • Installation and termination of low voltage cabling
  • Diagnose and correct copper cable problems
  • Removal and clean up of abandoned cables and systems
  • Installation of hardware including backboards, connecting blocks, racks, patch panels, network switches, firewalls and camera/NVR equipment.
  • Configuration and setup of Access Control systems and Camera systems
  • Respond to work orders / tickets to diagnose and repair wiring and related issues
  • Delivery and set up of IT Hardware including desktop computers, touchscreens, printers, cameras, telephone and network equipment
  • Demonstrate to end users how to properly use and care for camera, network, access control and other cabling and systems
  • Work with Corporate IT Support team to troubleshoot and resolve onsite technical issues
